Apple Dumpling and Apple Pizza Recipes

Best Ever Apple Dumplings
1-1/2 c. sugar
1-1/2 c. water
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
3 T. margarine
2 c. flour
2 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
2/3 c. crisco
1/2 c. milk
Combine the first 4 ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil.  Add margarine and set aside.
Stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Cut in Crisco.  Add milk and stir until flour is moistened.
Roll out on floured surface to form a rectangle.  Cut into squares.
Place diced apples in center.  Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg.  Dot with margarine.
Pull up corners and seal.  Put in ungreased pan.
Pour syrup over top.  Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.
Caramel Apple Dumplings
Sauce:
1-1/2 c. water
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 T. margarine
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. salt
Dumplings:
1-1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1-1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
2 T. margarine, melted
1 t. vanilla
1 c. diced, peeled, tart apples
In large saucepan, combine sauce ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
For the dumplings, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl.  Add milk, margarine, and vanilla.  Stir just until moistened.  Gently fold in apples.  Drop by heaping teaspoonful into boiling sauce.  Cover and cook on low heat for 10 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.  Yield:  6 servings  (These are almost as good as the first recipe, and they are MUCH easier to make!)
Apple Pizza
2-1/4 c. flour
2/3 c, plus 2 T. crisco
1 t. salt
5 T. cold water
5-6 green apples, peeled, cored, and diced
1/2 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
Mix first three ingredients with pastry blender until crumbly.  Add water and mix with fork and form a ball.  Roll out to a 12-13 inch circle and ease onto pizza pan.  Flute and seal edges.  Arrange apples on crust.  Mix together sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Sprinkle over apples.
Topping:
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. firm margarine
Mix until crumbly and sprinkle over apples.  Bake at 450 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
