Working out

With being off work this weekend, I noticed something.  Usually, I will want a long nap on Saturday and Sunday.  Even with working out for 30 minutes yesterday morning, my afternoon nap time was just falling asleep long enough to start dreaming, then I woke up and was ready to go again.

Today, I woke up at 5:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep.  I think perhaps I was too excited about teaching class this morning!  Anyway, I came home, feeling like I needed a nap.  I did the same thing as yesterday — just nodded off, woke up and was energized again.  I got up and did a 50 minute Turbo Jam workout.  It felt great!

I think the change in the weather here has done wonders for my energy level, not to mention feeling a sense of joy in my heart, even in the midst of still going the grieving process.  I broke down and cried again last night over missing my brother, but my tears didn’t last long.  It will be interesting to see how I do tomorrow — it will mark 19 years since my miscarriage.

Since we are supposed to get rain overnight, I’m hoping it will improve the pollen count so that I can go for a long walk when I get home from work.

Working out – physically and emotionally

I haven’t posted an update on working out for quite some time.  “Life” has happened, and that caused quite a disruption to my working out.  After my brother died on March 14, I had to save all of my strength just to function and get through the days.  I am trying to get back to the routine of working out, but am only managing to get it done 2-3 times a week, whereas, previously, I was working out 5-6 times a week.

I have still been working on inner thigh squats.  I can do those even while at work.  That has helped me to keep the muscles in that area pretty firm.  However, I have neglected my arms and they are getting flabby again.  I’m not happy with that because I worked so hard to get them firm.  I need to get back at it.

I really would like to see my midsection slim down, but I feel like it’s an uphill battle, and I’m just not sure I have it in me to get it done.  Maybe once the pollen count goes down some, I can start doing more walking + working out, and just maybe I will see some results which will motivate me once again.  It is hard to be dedicated when you feel like you aren’t getting very good results.

Emotionally, I am doing very well.  Even after someone dies, life does go on.  You have to get back to the daily routines, even if you don’t feel like it.  It has been good for me.

After speaking at my brother’s memorial service, I had so many people tell me what a good job I did, that I am a gifted speaker, etc.  In fact, my mother said, “You are a natural.  You should be a preacher!”  Anyway, that stirred up the passion in me to teach again.  With working f/t outside the home, and working every other weekend, teaching isn’t something to which I can commit on a long-term basis.  However, I will be filling in this Sunday in my adult Sunday school class.  I am so excited!  Spending a lot of time preparing for this weekend has been good for me.  It’s gotten me focused on something other than the loss of my brother.  But oh, Lord, how I do miss him!!!

The warmer weather and longer days have also done a lot to lift my spirits.  I had several really good days this week, and I attribute that to making the Lord the focus of my days.  His presence this week has been so intimate and precious.  I told my hubby that one day, I literally felt like He had wrapped His arms around me and kept me in His arms the entire day.  It was pure bliss.

Working Out Update

I had something rather interesting happen this week.  On Wednesday, I worked a 12 hour shift, so I wasn’t able to work out that day.  On top of that, I felt like I ate quite a bit yesterday too.  And when dd came home from small group, she had french fries, so I was eating some of them right before heading to bed.  So…..imagine my surprise when I got on the Wii Fit Plus this morning for my daily body test and discovered that I dropped 2.4 pounds overnight!!!

I’ve been at a plateau for quite some time.  I can’t seem to drop any more weight.  With being hypoglycemic, I can’t cut out much protein from my diet or my sugar bottoms out.  So it can be frustrating to work out so hard, and not see my clothes getting looser on me.  It makes me wonder — perhaps I need to be taking in MORE food than what I have been.  Maybe I’m not eating enough and so what I take in, my body wants to hold on to.  Any thoughts from anyone on this one?????

Granted, I am still gaining muscle mass.  When I flex my arms, they are very solid, and I couldn’t say that a couple of months ago.  I’m still working my inner thighs, and more muscle mass is building there.  But I want my clothes to be getting LOOSER on me — not TIGHTER!!!!

Day at home

Loved watching my Colts come back in the 2nd half yesterday and pull off the win!!!

The extreme winter storm is upon us.  It didn’t start snowing here until between 7 and 8 a.m.  We currently have about 6 inches on the ground now, with about that much more still to come, IF the forecasts are correct.

Church was cancelled for today, so I got to enjoy some extra sleep this morning. That was really nice, especially the extra cuddle time with hubby!   hug and kiss emoticon

Did my Booty-Sculpt workout this morning. 

After doing one of my T25 workouts yesterday, I needed something a little less intense.  

 

Yesterday’s T25 workout called for weights, so I used my new 5# weights.  The muscles in my chest (the ones just above my b**bs), are SO SORE today!  The workout which really worked that area was to lie on the floor with arms stretched out to the side, then slowly lift the weights, keeping your back pushed to the floor.  Though I am very sore, it is a GOOD kind of sore.

I have chili soup cooking in the crock pot now.   

Now I’m off to clean up the kitchen and put the rest of the laundry away.

Invigorating evening

After a long, tiring, stressful day, I came home and made a strong cup of coffee.

Next, I made some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

Now usually when I make cookies, I can’t leave them alone.  I can easily eat six or seven.  However, I tried two of them, and they just didn’t taste all that good to me.  Don’t get me wrong — there was nothing wrong with them.  I made them just like I always do, but I think my taste buds are burned out on holiday sweets.  DD told me the cookies were some of the best I’ve made.  I was quite pleased that they didn’t taste all that good to me because I wouldn’t be tempted to gorge on them.

Once done with the cookies, I worked out to one of my Shaun T DVDs. 

While cooling down from my workout, I had a large glass of carrot juice. 

I said, “Now THIS tastes GOOD!!!!”  It tasted so much better to me than the cookies did.  Woohoo!  I never thought I’d say that carrot juice tasted better than chocolate!

I got supper ready for the others, but I just wanted my juice, a small container of yogurt, a small piece of a Hawaiian roll, then I headed in to take a nice hot bath.

DD is bored with Christmas break so she actually started school today.  I just finished going over her school work for today.  Now we are watching Raiders of the Lost Ark for her Movies as Literature course.  Movies As Literature eBook

 

 

 

 

I’m hoping I wind down soon.  Bedtime isn’t too far away, but I’m still rather wired from the caffeine and invigorating workout I had this evening!

Birthday gift

For my 50th birthday, my parents gave me $50.  I finally decided what I wanted to buy with the money — though I needed to add some more to it.  Here’s what I bought:

I have several other workouts by Shaun T, and I really enjoy them.  I decided to try this one too since it also has a low-impact modifier.

I’m still juicing, and though I’m not seeing a lot of difference it my weight, I have dropped a size.  I have also noticed an improvement in my digestion.

I am also still building muscle mass and muscle weighs more than fat.  After focusing on trying to build up the muscle mass in my triceps, I finally have mostly muscle instead of flab!!! WOOHOO!!!

I have also been doing a lot of inner thigh squats, trying to firm up the flab between my legs.  It’s getting much better, but I still have more work to do.  I will often do 50-75 of those in a day.  It is nice to see that I have built up my stamina where I can do a lot more than what I used to be able to do.

Juicing and Working Out

So I’ve been juicing now for around three weeks and I have dropped one size. Not only that, but usually when I have a weekend off, I will take a nap on Friday when I get home, one on Saturday, and sometimes one on Sunday. This weekend, I took one on Friday, but was too busy on Saturday and Sunday to take one. Though my energy wasn’t extremely high on Saturday, I didn’t feel exhausted from having missed out on my usual nap. However, my energy level seemed to be at peak levels all day on Sunday! It has me wondering if perhaps my juicing is increasing my energy levels. And I’ve noticed that I also am drinking less coffee per day.

I want to address something regarding juicing — some people say that juicing isn’t all that it is cracked up to be because you don’t end up getting all of the pulp when you juice. Granted, that is true because a juicer spits out so much pulp. But I want to point out my side of the story. I do not like to eat fresh fruits and veggies. I never have. However, I *love* to drink them! So for me, juicing is a winner because it helps me make healthier choices to get that “live” food in my body and I also gain the benefits of losing weight.

Though I didn’t feel like doing a high energy cardio workout this evening since we had several things to do after I got off work, I pushed myself to do a 35 minute cardio workout. Once I got started, it felt FANTASTIC!! I used one of my Turbo Jam DVDs and did a shorter version that what was on the DVD. Hopefully, this will help motivate me to get back into doing more cardio workouts. Perhaps next week when my vacation starts, I will put forth more effort in that direction.
